How can a woman become part of this great organization? If you are a woman
who is young or young at heart and likes to sing, the Gainesville Harmony
Show Chorus may be an ideal hobby. Membership is open to women of all ages
and backgrounds, and we have open auditions all year long. You don’t have
to read music, but you do need to be able to carry a tune. We use written
music and audio tapes to make learning music as easy as possible.
We sing songs ranging from traditional melodies to Broadway and Blues. This
unique American folk tradition enhances the cultural arts of the community
with its blend of harmony and ringing chords.
Rehearsals:
7:00pm to 9:30pm on Thursdays at
Covenant Baptist Church

THE AUDITION PROCESS
AUDITION!! AUGH! Now Relax! Don't worry; it's not as bad as you may
think. You are given time to prepare and practice for the audition before
the real thing. Here's how it works:
You are given sheet music and a tape for a short familiar song. You
should learn this song in 2-3 weeks. Concentrate on the notes, words,
and the breath spots and on becoming comfortable with the tempo and
rhythm of the song as it is presented on the tape. After attending 3
consecutive rehearsals, you may request a practice audition, or have
an audition immediately following rehearsal. You have two options:
|
1. You, along with a quartet from the music committee and a director,
will have a private session singing the song. Your voice part section
leader will sing in the "quartet" with you the first time
to assist your comfort level. Then you will have a chance to sing your
part in the quartet. Your section leader will indicate any trouble spots
with words or notes on your music. The director and section leader will
also offer assistance in areas in which you may require extra work.
2. You may tape the song during a regular run-through with the chorus.
Your section leader will listen to the tape immediately after rehearsal,
indicate any problem areas on your sheet music, and she and a director
will offer any assistance needed to help you pass.
|
|
You must have the song note, word, and breath perfect to pass. Should
you not pass the audition on your first attempt, No Problem!! You will
have a chance to try again. And don't worry; many people do not pass
on the first attempt.
If you would like to practice before rehearsal, let the music committee
chair or a director know and she will make sure that a quartet is available
for you to rehearse with.
REALLY, that is all there is to it! Just remember that every member
of this chorus was a newcomer at one time, just like you.
